EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) in India

Some Facts :
  • Introduced-- 1999
  • Runs on 6V battery. No need of power supply.
  • Records maximum 3,840 votes and can cater to maximum 64 candidates, with maximum 16 in 1 balloting unit.
  • VVPAT (Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail) is a verification system that allows voters to verify whether their votes correctly casted or not.


Advantages :
  1. Huge savings of cost of paper, printing, transportation, storage and distribution.
  2. Quick counting of votes and declaration of results.
  3. No invalid votes cast.
  4. Pace of poll overall is quickened.
  5. EVM machines are sturdy and able to withstand rough handling and variable climatic conditions.
  6. Each EVM unit has unique serial number and the software of control unit is burnt in a micro-chip which is one-time programmable.

The Concept of Mlecchas in Hinduism

They were unknown to the Vedic culture, not versed in Sanskrit and were out of the Bharatvarsha. King Bhoja (1,010-1,015 AD) established Languages for the 4 Varnas : Brahmins - Sanskrit Kshatriya - Sanskrit Vaishya - Sanskrit Shudras - Prakrit Mlecchas mentioned in Scriptures : The 5 Mleccha tribes - Kirata, Pulindasa, Indo-Greek, Scythians, Kushanas.
