Challenges of Railway Porters in India
Hello Everyone !!!
The Indian Railways manages the 4th largest railway network in the world by size, with a route length of 67,368-km and total track length of 1,21,407-km.
In India, red-jacketed station porters are common at almost all stations across the network. Although Indian railway porters are not employed directly by Indian Railways, they are centrally trained and licensed, holding a licence issued in the name of the President of India, and their role is carefully regulated, with local services (such as porters' offices, lavatories, and canteens) provided by the railway company.
Their role is the traditional luggage-carrying job at railway stations.
The Current Challenges faced by Railway Porters are :
If the government pays attention towards improving the conditions of the railway porters, it will further enhance the working of the Railways and will vastly improve the lives of the Porters, which are also crucial parts of the Indian Railways.
Thank You !!!

The Current Challenges faced by Railway Porters are :
- The Porters/ coolies need training in soft skills.
- Rates of charges not revised till now.
- To develop a more organised system, by which expectations are clear among passengers, Coolies and Railway officials.
- They need recognition as D-category rail employees, medical insurance, a quarter to live and free rail passes round the year.
If the government pays attention towards improving the conditions of the railway porters, it will further enhance the working of the Railways and will vastly improve the lives of the Porters, which are also crucial parts of the Indian Railways.
Thank You !!!
