1. The "Pneumatic tire" was invented by Mr. John Boyd Dunlop in 1888 for use on push-bikes. Boyd also invented the word "Pneumatic".

2. Slick tires offer more grip in the wet than treaded tires up to the point at which they aqua-plane.

3. Modern sports bikes' tires don't contain any natural rubber.

4. Front tires disperse water at three times the rate of rear tires.

5. When cornering, 75% of a bike's grip comes from the front tire.

6. The 'GS' in GSX-R denotes 4 cylinders with overhead valves. The 'X' means 4 valves per cylinder and 'R' is for race replica.

7. 'Hayabusa' is the name of a Japanese falcon. It was also the name of WW-II Kamikaze fighter plane.

8. The 1st Honda motorcycles were Push-bikes with generator engines for army field telephones bolted on.

9. The "Big-4" companies of bikes-- Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki.

10. During WW-II, Royal Enfield launched a new bike "Flying Flea". Weighing 60-kg with 125-cc 2-stroke engine.

11. BMW is the only current major manufacturer to reject the use of telescopic forks on its big bikes. Yet, BMW was the first to use and patent them on the R-12 in 1935.

12. Devil, Satan and Lucifer have all been names of motorcycle manufacturers.

13. Yamaha started making bikes in 1954 but didn't produce a 4-stroke model until 1970, when the firm built the XS2-650 twin.

14. Harley Davidson built push-bikes between 1917-23. The Kawasaki motorcycle division was established in 1962 for no other reason than to publicize its heavy industries, which was huge but unknown to the general public.

15. Yamaha is deemed as the most reliable brand with just 11% failure rate. Its a Japanese company founded in 1955.

16. Early bike helmets were lined with cork, before becoming famous for bike helmets. ARAI made helmets for building sites.

17. The founder of ARAI, Mr. Hirotaki Arai was a stunt rider. Princess Anne and George Harrison have both owned custom-painted ARAI helmets. British racer Barry Sheene's King helmet was "Bell-star helmet" with a king sticker on it.

18. The term "motorcycle" 1st coined by British inventor Mr. Edward Butler, when he built a twin-cylinder tricycle prototype in 1885.
Some poly-carbonate helmets are made from melted-down bottle crates !!

19. Helmet manufactures FM also made bottle crates.

20. British super-bike rider Scott Smart is Barry Sheen's nephew. Scott's mom Maggie Smart was the 1st ever MCN Grid Girl in 1971.
