The Tantric Worship of Lord Shiva

Shaivism is one of the major traditions within Hinduism that reveres Shiva as the Supreme Being. The followers of Shaivism are called "Shaivites".
It is one of the largest sects that believe Shiva, worshipped as a creator and destroyer of worlds, is the supreme god over all.

Shaivism has ancient roots, traceable in the Vedic literature of 2nd BC, but this is in the form of the Vedic deity Rudra.

This eschatology proposes that the 5 streams emerged from the 5 faces of Shiva :

  1. Bhuta--        Sadjyota
  2. Vama--        Vamadeva
  3. Bhairava--  Aghora
  4. Garuda--    Tatpurusha
  5. Siddhanta-- Ishana

  • The 32 Bhairava tantras are of Kapalika sect.

The 3 Tantric Schools within Shaivism :

  1. Kapalika
  2. Kalamukha
  3. Natha
