Kalaripayattu the Lethal Combative Arts of India [PART-2]

 Hello Everyone !!!

According to classical literary sources, God Parshurama was the first Guru (spiritual preceptor) of this art.

# The different styles of Kalari is generally classified in 2 groups :--

1. Southern Kalari Thekkan--

It consists of art of self defense introduced by sage Agastya. This system gives more importance to the physical exercises, unarmed combat and the knowledge of the vital points striking. 

2. Northern Kalari Vadakkan-- 

It was introduced by God Parshurama. It gives more emphasis on weapon training and usage.

# God Parashurama and His warriors taught their secrets to 4 of the most aristocratic Brahmins. These in turn trained others and picked 21 experts from among those trained warriors. These 21 warriors established the 21 Kalaris to protect the land and maintain peace.

# The Golden Age of Kalari was from 13th-18th century. 

# The development of physical culture is an important task of every community. In physical culture, strength of mind is the driving power.

# The 3 Levels of Kalari :--  

  1. Meythari (physical exercise)
  2. Kolthari (physical coordination)
  3. Ankathari (complete fighting)
