The 4 Denominations :
1. Shaivism :--
# Shaivites worship the Supreme God as Shiva. They esteem self-discipline, philosophy and follow a Satguru. They worship in the temple and practice Yoga, striving to be one with Shiva within.
# The 7 main schools are--
- Shaiva Siddhanta
- Pashupatism
- Kashmir Shaivism
- Vira Shaivism
- Siddha Siddhanta
- Shiva Advaita
# Shaktas worship the Supreme as the Divine Mother, Shakti. She has many forms. Shaktas use chants, real magic, holy diagrams, Yoga and rituals to call forth cosmic forces and awaken the great Kundalini power.
# It has 4 expressions--
- Devotional
- Folk shamanic
- Yogic
- Universalist
The Vaishanavites worship Lord Vishnu and His incarnations. They are mainly dualistic.
4. Smartism :--
# Smartas worship the Supreme One in 6 forms--
- Ganesha
- Shiva
- Shakti
- Vishnu
- Surya
- Skanda
The 9 Beliefs :
Our beliefs determine our thoughts and attitudes about life, which in turn direct our actions. By our actions, we create our destiny.
- There is one, all-pervasive Supreme Being who is both immanent and transcendent, both Creator and Unmanifested Reality.
- The divinity of the 4 Vedas and the Agamas. These are God's word and the bedrock of Sanatan Dharma.
- The Universe undergoes endless cycles of creation, preservation and dissolution.
- Belief in the Law of Cause & Effect by which each individual creates his own destiny by his thoughts, words and deeds.
- The soul reincarnates, evolving through many births until all Karmas have been resolved and liberation is attained.
- Divine beings exist in unseen worlds and that temple worship, rituals, sacraments and personal devotionals create a communion with these Devas and Gods.
- An enlightened master (Satguru) is essential to know the God, as are personal discipline, good conduct, purification, pilgrimage, self-inquiry, meditation and surrender to God.
- All life is sacred, to be loved and revered and therefore practice non-violence.
- All genuine paths are facets of God's light. deserving tolerance and understanding.
- Karma

- All-pervasive divinity
- Dharma
