Siddha Medicine Concepts

Siddha medicine is a traditional medicine originating in Tamil Nadu, India and practised over centuries.
Siddha is an ancient Indian traditional treatment system which evolved in South India, and is dated to the times of 3rd century BC Indus Valley Civilization or earlier.
According to ancient literature of Siddha, it is said that the system of this medicine originated from Lord Shiva who taught it to his consort Parvati. Parvati then passed it on to Nandi and Nandi taught about it to 9 Devtas.
The Concept of Disease and Cause :
Under normal conditions, the ratio between Vata-Pitta-Kapha should be 4:2:1.

1. Herbal products (Thavaram)
2. The 6 Inorganic substances (Thadhu)
a) Uppu (water soluble inorganic)
b) Pashanam (drugs not dissolved in water but emit vapor when fired)
c) Uparasam (similar to Pashanam, but differ in action)
d) Loham (not dissolved in water but melts when fired)
e) Rasam (soft drugs)
f) Ghandhagam (drugs insoluble in water)
3. Animal products (Jangamam)
4. Gemstones (ratnas and upa-ratnas)
