Knife Fighting Concepts (by Bram Frank)

Hello Everyone !!!

The 8 Principles :

1. "Defang the Snake", i.e., try to destroy the opponent's ability to hold a weapon.
2. The most effective cuts to make are to the inside of the arms.
3. To maximise outside arms cuts, act as if slicing up to the bicep.
4. Cutting takes little strength. The longer the edge is in contact, the deeper the cut.
5. Disengage a cut by slicing through the opponent, avoid just pulling the knife back.
6. Sparring is the best way to develop knife fighting skills.
7. Sparring = Soft (50%) + Hard(50%)
8. Other important factors :--

  • Footwork
  • Timing
  • Range
Other Principles and Tactics

  • Move off the line-of-attack.
  • Control the weapon-arm by extending it.
  • Attack the spots until the threat is over.
The 8 Rules for "Defanging the Snake" :

1. Steel cuts flesh.
2. Rule #1 can't be changed.
3. Rule #1 and #2 always apply. Even a dull knife cuts.
4. The nature of a knife always is to cut things.
5. Lead with the edge and cut with the point.
6. Grip is determined by range, range is determined by style and size of the blade.
7. Disarming a person with a knife is an unrealistic goal.
8. Use the knife only in fear for your life.
