The Worden Defense System (by Kelly Worden)

 Hello Everyone !!!

The 10 Principles :

1. Tool Development :--

Systematic training of basic strikes to build accuracy, consistency, speed and power. It addresses all the ranges while steadily building personal physical awareness necessary to effectively and safely close-in to an immobilization lock, grapple or takedown.

2. Force Escalation :--

It comprises an order of 4 basic tactical levels of force that can be applied in Close Quarter Combat depending on the level of intent required to defeat an aggressor.

  • Empty handed
  • Use of impact weapons, which include close-range fist loads, medium and long-range weapons.        With speed, coordination and confidence built, the student has to develop the correct ergonomics, power to optimize effectiveness and self-control.
  • Use of edged weapons.
  • Use of firearms.
3. The Universal Pattern of Motion :--

It includes the 8 major angles of attack and the foundational stances which are the basis for any effective fighting skill.

4 & 5. Attachment and Adhesion :--

Attachment means getting in contact with the enemy and Adhesion means staying there. Chi Sao (sticky hand drills) improves the ability to read an opponent's intentions through pressure sensitivity, feeling minute changes in bodily resistance in the application of force and in the fluctuating position. It yields deep insights about our body mechanics, instincts and opponent's actions and options. It also encompasses disengagement and acceleration to weapon deployment.

6. Translation :--

It is the creative ability to take the patterns of empty-hand combat and create comparable patterns with a weapon, or vice-versa. It also denotes expanding upon drill patterns to create and refine various fighting techniques.

7. Transition & Flow :--

It is the ability to spontaneously adapt to the circumstances of combat.

9. Environment Use :--

The advantageous use of environment in fighting. By utilising the features of immediate surrounding, the tools available for defeating an enemy are greatly enhanced.

10. Connecting the System :--

Learn all you could from whatever sources available, as long as they are sound as reliable.
