Functional Self Defense (by David Erath, 2012)

 Hello Everyone !!!

The Covered Blast :

#) The 3 Components :--

  1. Covered entry-- It consists of the motion of convergence towards the opponent and the initial technique. It can be first offensive movement or an interception into opponent's attack.
  2. Covered follow-up-- It consists of any additional techniques required to disable the attacker.
  3. Covered exit-- It consists of exit from the attack.
#) It involves making use of a combination of distance, position, cover and control to maximize our options while minimizing the opponents', along with the skills necessary to defend any remaining openings.

The 4-Step Matrix :

  1. Covered entry
  2. Weapon controlling
  3. Taking out the opponent
  4. Covered exit
The 7 Warning Signs : (by Gavin de Becker)

  1. Forced teaming
  2. Charm
  3. Too many details
  4. Typecasting
  5. Lone sharking
  6. Unsolicited promise
  7. Discounting the word "NO"
The Zone Theory :

  • Every attack is initiated from a particular location and is aimed at a particular location. These 2 points are-- Initiation and Contact-zones.
  • The factor that determines the path of attack, angle of initiation from initiation to Contact Zone is the relative position of participants.
  • The opponent's angle of initiation can be changed by manipulating relative position/ jamming/ disrupting the striking tools.
  • The Contact Zones he can strike can be changed by relative position and an effective physical cover.
The 6 Ways to Prevent the Attack : (by Rob Redenbach)

  1. Ignore or leave-- If possible, we should escape.

  3. Comply-- If the attacker has weapon, give him what he wants.
  4. Stun & Run-- Nail the attacker and escape to safety.
  5. Incapacitate the attacker.
  6. Restrain the attacker
