Fighting Dynamics (by George Hernandez)

 Hello Everyone !!!

The 5-T of Crime :

I) Target :--

  • A criminal set up the time, location, number and circumstances.
  • The psychology of preventing an incident is important.
  • The 2 key strategies are-- Green frogs (camouflage, voiding), Orange frogs (visible deterrents, reputation, warnings)
II) Test :--

Evaluation of target in a harmless fashion.

III) Threat :--

Intimidation of target.

IV) Touch :--

Engagement in physical violence.

V) Take-off by criminal

The 6 Factors of Combat :

I) Positioning

II) Range :--

     a) Weapon-- Ranged (Chemically propelled, mechanically propelled, thrown), Melee.

     b) Hand-to-hand combat

     c) Mounted and armored

     d) Group combat-- Strategic (Grand strategy, national-level, theater level), Operational, Tactical.

     e) The 9 types of Ranges-- (by Lt. Col. D. Grossman)

Maximum, long, mid-range, hand grenade (enemy not visible but audible), close-range, Bayonet-range, knife range, Hand-to-hand combat, sexual.

     f) Measure-- No measure (Opponent can be in weapon-range by closing distance in 2 or more beats), In measure (Wide, Close, Grappling-range)

III) Techniques by kind :--

       a) Free movement-- Blows, adjustments, parrying & blocking, absorbing attacks.

       b) Smothering--

Positioning & defensive moves, Trapping (upright/clinch, horizontal), Wrestling, Grappling.

IV) Execution by techniques :--

      a) Kinetics--

With projectiles, With the human body, Hard vs Soft.

      b) Kinematics--

  • The closest distance between 2 points is straight-line.
  • Linear techniques are geometrically expedient and dependent on muscularity.
  • Circular techniques take advantage of leverage and pivot point.
      c) Statics--

  • Stable stances
  • Understanding leverage and torque is key in acquiring advantageous positions and mechanical advantage.
      d) Yin & Yang

V) Timing :--

      a) Out of Time-- A Tempo (time) taken not during opponent's time. It results in simultaneous hits.

  • Attack on your own.
      b) Attacking the Tempo-- A Tempo taken during opponent's Tempo.

      c) Double time-- 2 techniques done one after another.

      d) Single time-- 2 or more techniques at same time.

      e) Stop thrust-- An attack as the opponent's attack begins.

      f) Counter time-- An attack done during opponent's attack.

      g) An attack as the opponent mentally commits attack.

      h) Some points about Tempo--

  • Keep the tempo of your attack shorter the the opponent's.
  • Finding, making and seizing opportunities to attack when in measure.
  • Denying opponent the same.
  • Athletic vs Tactical
      i) To parry is to ward-off a blow.

      j) Rhythm, recurrence of techniques--

  • Beats of techniques in an exchange.
  • Tempos in a technique
  • A beat alone is often sufficient if opponent can't defend at that moment.
  • A technique executed with variable speeds can be disconcerting.
  • If you control the Tempo, measure and beat, you can win the fight.
VI) Tactics :--

       a) Set up techniques enabling finishing techniques.

       b) Finishing techniques finish fights.

       c) Sometimes combat is more a matter of who strikes first, instead of who hits with greatest power.

       d) All things equal, an attacker moves forward faster than a person moving backwards while                       defending.

       e) Tactical points-- (by George Silver)

  • The 4 true times-- Hand; Hand & body; Hand, body & foot; Hand, body & feet.
  • The 4 false times-- Foot; Foot & body; Foot, body & hand; Feet, body & hand.
  • The 4 grounds-- Judgement, Distance, Time, Place.
  • The 4 Governors-- Judgement, Measure of distance of safety and attack, Pressing-in, Flying-out.
