The Victorian Era England (1837-1901)

The Victorian Era Gentleman :

He must know how to ride, shoot, fence, dance, swim, row, being grace and polite, Boxing and being chaste.

The Social Evils of the Era :

Intoxicants, gambling, prostitution.

The Daily Life :

  • Life was notoriously regimented.
  • No organic waste was produced by the industries and homes
  • Everything was kept clean, including the servant quarters.
  • Many people of that era were great inventors, like Alexander Graham Bell, Charles Wheatstone, Charles Babbage, Florence Nightingale, Robert William Thomson etc.
  • An average Victorian ate more than 10 portions of fruits and vegetables a day. Less focus on meat and processes foods.
  • An average man was used to hard physical work. 
  • They tend to get up at sunrise and early to bed after sunset.

Food :

Meat, eggs, milk & milk products, vegetables, fruits, rice, flour, tea, coffee, treacle, jam, dry-fruits etc.

Accessories carried by Men :

Pocket watch & fob, Singlestick. 

The Ideals of the Society :

  • Chastity
  • Low tolerance of crime
  • Social codes of conduct

General Clothing of Men :

Shirt, trousers, vest, coat, hat, gloves.
