NINJA : THE MYTH, THE REALITY (PART-2)

Hello everyone !!
Here I am continuing the Ninja facts from the last post..

Ninja Technology :

  • Among the weapons used by Ninjas were disguised knives and swords, metal claws, spiked devices etc, that pierced the feet of pursuing enemies and around 30 different types of throwing stars or Shurikens. Despite their reputation for stealth, Ninjas were not shy about using noisy weapons. They also employed arrow-mounted rockets, smoke-pots, rifles  and portable cannons that shot gravels and iron chips !!!
  • Among the Shurikens, the star and Swastika-shaped were often tipped with poison. These were used to aiming for head of the enemy. Shurikens were mostly used as a distraction since they can't be as deadly as other blade weapons. 
  • Smoke was used in a number of ways like, as a signal for the start of a battle, or operation as a diversion for disappearance and escapes. They also mixed smoke with poisons to make breathing difficult for their opponents. Their use of hidden traps was equally diabolical !!
  • Among the other devices used by Ninjas were special pipes that allowed them to listen to conversations in adjacent rooms, bamboo sticks used for scaling walls, sophisticated lock-picks, foot-mounted floats used to traverse swamps and grass, rakes that could be used to scale walls or kill an opponent. When they were on the road, Ninjas subsisted off "Katayaki", which were dense, calorie-filled cookies. Some also carried a compass like magnet that always pointed South-direction when placed on water, pistols disguised as short swords etc.

The Concept of Mlecchas in Hinduism

 Hello Everyone !!! In Vedic era India, all alien cultures that were less civilized were termed as "Mlecchas" or barbarians. They were unknown to the Vedic culture, not versed in Sanskrit and were out of the Bharatvarsha. King Bhoja (1,010-1,015 AD) established Languages for the 4 Varnas : Brahmins - Sanskrit Kshatriya - Sanskrit Vaishya - Sanskrit Shudras - Prakrit Mlecchas mentioned in Scriptures : The 5 Mleccha tribes - Kirata, Pulindasa, Indo-Greek, Scythians, Kushanas. ( Amar Kosha, 814 AD) This tribe was born from the tail of Nandini (celestial cow). They are dwellers of hills and mountains, of fierce eyes, conversant with deceptive powers of the Asuras.   ( Mahabharata 7.92) Mentioned in several verses of Srimad Bhagvatam and Chaitanya Charitamrita . According to the text Bhavishya Purana , there are 4 Mleccha languages . In this way, there are 4-million kinds of other languages.
