The Brahmin Varna

 Hello Everyone !!!

Brahmin are a varna (class) in Hinduism. They specialised as priests (purohit, pandit, or pujari), teachers (acharya or guru), ayurvedic physicians and protectors of sacred learning across generations.

The 2 Regional Groups :

I) Pancha-Gauda :-- (North India)

Saryupareen, Kanyakubja, Maithil, Saraswat, Utkala.

II) Pancha-Dravida :-- (South India)

Brahmins from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu.

The 9 Rules of Conduct : (Dharmasutra, 8-9)

  1.  Be always truthful
  2. Conduct as an Aryan
  3. Teach your art only to the virtuous men
  4. Follow rules of ritual purification
  5. Study Vedas with delight
  6. Never hurt any living creature
  7. Be gentle but steadfast
  8. Self-control
  9. Be kind

The 4 Virtues : (Baudhayana Dharmasutra)

  1. Charity
  2. Modesty
  3. No anger
  4. No arrogance

The 7 Virtues : (by Sage Bhrigu)

  1. Truth
  2. Gifts
  3. Non-violence
  4. Compassion
  5. Shame
  6. Benevolence
  7. Penance

The 8 Virtues : (Dharmasutra 9.24-25)

  1. Compassion
  2. Patience
  3. Lack of envy
  4. Purification
  5. Tranquility
  6. Auspicious disposition
  7. Generosity
  8. Lack of greed

The 9 Virtues : (Gita 18.42)

  1. Serenity
  2. Self-restraint

The 11 Virtues : (Vasistha Dharmasutra, 6.23)
