Wilderness Trip Planning

Trips to wilderness are joyous and thrilling. It also comes with its own preparedness and cautions. Certain things must be kept in mind while going on such trips either alone, with family or with friends.
Some Tips for Wilderness Trip to be kept in Mind :
1. Packing lists are a personal preference topic and can be in itself a big post !!! In short, pack according to the place you are going, pack light, always carry adequate amount of water and food. Lastly, must carry a sturdy good quality pocket knife. Carry it in pocket, not in the bag. It can have tons of uses on such trips.
2. Study the area you are going into and make sure you know all of the routes in and out.
3. Get to know the basic geography and make sure you are fit enough to handle the terrain.
4. Study normal weather patterns and pack for environment.
5. Get to know local wildlife and find out what dangers you can expect to encounter.
6. Study the edible plants in the area and learn how to use them in emergency.
7. Make sure you know where all watering holes are.
8. When hiking or doing any kind of back-country activity, let someone know where you will be and when you plan to return.
