Namami Gange: From a Sacred River to a National Mission
Hello Everyone !! The Ganga is more than a river for India. For thousands of years, it has been central to Indian civilisation, agriculture, trade, spirituality and culture. Millions of people depend directly or indirectly on its waters, while cities, industries and farms across the Ganga basin depend on the river system for their livelihoods. Yet decades of population growth, urbanisation, industrialisation, untreated sewage and ecological degradation have placed enormous pressure on this ancient river. Recognising the scale of the challenge, the Government of India launched the Namami Gange Programme in 2014 as a comprehensive programme for the rejuvenation, protection and cleaning of the Ganga and its tributaries.
