  2. Jewels of the Earth-- 84
  3. Jewels of Netherworld-- 09

The 4 Jewels found in Heaven :

  1. Kaustubh mani-- Lord Vishnu
  2. Chinta mani-- Lord Vishnu, Ganesha, Nagaraja, Makara
  3. Syamantak mani-- Lord Krishna
  4. Rudra mani-- Lord Shiva

The Classification of Gems on Earth :

  • Total types-- 84
  •  Main-- 09
  • Common-- 12
  • Sub-gems-- 63

Gemstones in other Scriptures :

  •  There are 12 types of gems.                                                   (Garuda Purana 1.68.9-10)
  • According to Brihat Samhita, there are 22 types of gemstones. (Ch. 80.4)
  • According to Scriptures, some gemstones have virtues of expiating all sins or of acting as a prophylactic against effects of poison, snake-bites and diseases. Some gems have contrary virtues.
