Ayurvedic Healing by Dr. David Frawley

Dr. David Frawley is a world renowned researcher in the fields of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicines. Here are some excerpts from his book Ayurvedic Healing.

Ojas :

  • It is the ultimate essence of reproductive fluids and heat of the tissues.
  • Located in the heart, pervades the entire body, giving stability and support. It is moist, of the nature of Soma, transparent, slightly red and yellow in color.


Astral body :

  • According to Ayurveda  and occult science, it is composed of life force (Prana), emotions and thoughts. It is a subtle form or underlying energy pattern of physical body, from which the physical body is produced.
  • There are channels (Nadis) in it, through which life force (Prana) and emotions flows. These are reflected in the Aura of the person.


Aura :

  • It is the field of our positive vitality, the light emitted by Ojas.
  • Pranayama, gems, mantra and meditation have most power to improve it.
  • Dark gems protect it, warm gems energize it and nurturing gems feed it.
  • Peace and silence of mind energize and consolidate it.


Insanity :

  • According to Ayurveda, Insanity occurs when mental unrest is so severe that an individual is unable to function in physical reality.
  • According to Ayurveda and Vedanta philosophy, most of us are caught in an underlying ignorance and false perception of life. Our whole ego is an illusion.


Possession :

  • Our physical world is intimately linked with subtler world and there is a constant interplay of energies between them.
  • Possession by gods-- Aggravates Vata element.
  • Possession by ghost-- These entities are severely attached to the physical world and try to stay by becoming connected to the living.
  • Possession by Asuras-- Their purpose is to block human evolution. It aggravates the Pitta element.
  • Channeling aggravates the Vata element.

Addictions

  • It occurs from too much Tamas element. Often caused by excess Rajas element, compensated for by providing an artificial calm.
  • All addictions tend to increase Vata, by creating nervous dependency.
  • Smoking :--
          Vata-- To calm anxiety, give distraction from worry.
          Pitta-- Addiction of more fire into system, increased feeling of power.
          Kapha-- Clearing and stimulating effects.

  • Alcoholism :-- It is also a sugar. Aggravates Pitta.
  • Drugs :--
          Generally aggravates Vata, depletes, depletes Ojas and damages Sattva.
          Stimulants aggravates Pitta.
          Hallucinogens  aggravates Kapha.
          Depressants aggravates Kapha.
