Most of the police forces use this common Force Ladder to control an assailant from unarrmed to lethal options :--

1. Presence to intimidate
2. Verbal commands to stop
3. Physical contact of soft hands
4. Physical contact of hard hands
5. Baton strike
6. Chemical spray/ Taser/ Stun gun
7. Firearm
