Yama-Niyama in Hindu Philosophy

Hindu philosophy is rooted in very ancient times and is very deep and broad for the understanding of human mind. Yama and Niyamas are set of rules and codes formulated by the ancient seers for proper development of humans both physically and spiritually.
Yamas :
The 10 Yamas :--
1. Ahimsa (non-violence)
2. Satya (truth)
3. Asteya (non-stealing)
4. Brahmacharya (celibate when single, faithful when married)
5. Kshama (pardon)
6. Dhriti (steadfastness)
7. Daya (compassion)
8. Arjava (honesty)
9. Mitahara (moderate appetite)
10. Shaucha (purity)
The 5 Yamas of Patanjali :--
1. Non-violence
2. Benevolent truth
3. Non-stealing
4. Celibacy
5. Absence of avarice
Niyamas :
The 10 Niyamas :--
1. Hri (remorse)
2. Santosha (contentment)
3. Dana (giving)
4. Astikya (faith on enlightenment)
5. Ishvara-pujana (worship of God)
6. Siddhanta shravana (Scriptural listening)
7. Mati (cognition)
8. Vrata (sacred vows)
9. Japa (recitation)
10. Tapas (endurance of the opposites)
The 5 Niyamas of Patanjali :--
1. Cleanliness of thoughts, mind and body
2. Contentment
3. Penance
4. Self-study
5. Surrender to God
