Samudra Manthan in Hinduism

According to Hindu Scriptures, there is mentioned an event of samudra manthan, or churning of ocean. It was done by Asuras (demons) and Devas (demi-gods).
According to Hindu Scriptures, there is mentioned an event of samudra manthan, or churning of ocean. It was done by Asuras (demons) and Devas (demi-gods).
In that churning incident, Ksheer Sagar was churned, churning rod was Mount Mandar, churning rope was snake Vasuki and Lord Vishnu as Kurma avatar acted as the base of the mountain, when it started to sink after some time of churning.
According to the legend, 14 jewels came out as a result of churning.
The jewels were :
1. Halaahal (poison)-- Lord Shiva drank it, which remained in His throat
2. Airaavat (White multi-tusked elephant)
3. Kaamdhenu (Wish fulfilling cow)
4. Ucchaishravas (7 headed flying white horse)
5. Parijata tree
6. Divine conch shell-- Taken by Lord Vishnu
7. Moon god
8. Goddess Lakshmi
9. Kaustubham gem -- Taken by Lord Vishnu
10. Apsaras
11. Kalpavriskha (Celestial tree)
12. Lord Dhanvantari (Lord of Ayurveda)
13. Divine nectar
14. Varuni Devi (Goddess of wine)
Apart from these jewels, some other objects also emerged from the ocean, as mentioned in various Scriptures.
