The Concept of Kaizen :
# The methodology includes making small changes and improvements and monitoring results, then adjusting accordingly.
# The cycle of Kaizen activity can be defined as :--
Plan → Do → Check → Act.
# The 2 approaches :--
a) Flow Kaizen :--
It is oriented towards flow of materials and information, and is often identified with reorganization of an entire production area.
b) Process Kaizen :--
It means improvement of individual workstands. It is used to focus workers on continuous small improvements. Operators mostly look for small ideas which can be implemented on the same day.
The 5-S Methodology : (Concept)
1. Sort (Siri)
- Eliminate obstacles
- Reduce chances of being disturbed with unnecessary items
- Prevent accumulation of unnecessary items.
2. Set in order (Seiton)
- Arrange for easy selection
- Ensure FIFO basis
- Easy mechanism to find and pick-up
- Workflow should be smooth and easy
- These works should be done on regular basis.
3. Shine (Seiso)
- Keep workplace clean, safe and easy to work.
- Prevent equipment and machinery deterioration.
4. Standardize (Seiketsu)
- Standardize best practices in work area.
- Maintain high standards at all times.
5. Sustain (Shitsuke)
- Regular audits performed
- Training and discipline
- Training should be goal-oriented. Its feedback is also necessary.
- Self-discipline
- Maintain proper order
- Follow process, but also open to improvement.
Monodukiri no-kokoro : (Concept)
The spirit of keeping things clean, ordered and perfect.
Ichigyo Zammai : (Concept)
Practice of full concentration on one single activity. Similar to the concept of "Mindfulness".
Ikigai : (Concept)
It refers to something that gives a person a sense of purpose, a reason for living. It is often compared to similar concepts such as mission, dream, vision and meaning of life.
