BARTITSU : THE LOST ART OF UNITED KINGDOM The eclectic and hybrid combative art of Bartitsu created by Mr. E.W. Barton Wright of UK during 1898-1902. It was mainly developed to address the problems of civilian/ urban self defense in an "unarmed society" of that period .   Bartitsu incorporated combat techniques from boxing, Judo, Jujutsu, Savate, French stick fighting and Schwingen (Swiss wrestling style). It also included a comprehensive physical culture training system. Mr. Wright is believed to be the first European to have studied the Japanese martial arts and also the first one to have taught them in Europe, the British Empire or the Americas .
